Korra Obidi is facing criticism after fans donated over $50,000 (around N75 million) to help with her legal fees for a child custody battle with her ex-husband, Justin Dean.
On Friday, Korra asked Nigerians for financial help, claiming her ex-husband had a court order preventing their children from being featured online.
Korra and Justin Dean divorced in 2022 after portraying a perfect marriage online. Dean accused her of cheating and being a narcissist.
The messy divorce resulted in a US court granting them 50-50 custody of their two daughters.
In 2023, Korra said her ex-husband didn’t take care of the children and refused to sign documents needed for their passports, preventing them from visiting her family in Nigeria.
Recently, Dean secured image protection from Meta, stopping Korra from posting their children on Facebook and Instagram, her main sources of income.
In her bid to hire a good lawyer, Korra started a GoFundMe campaign to raise $100,000, stating she couldn’t afford the high legal fees in Los Angeles.
Many people, including Nigerians, supported her, raising over $50,000.
However, during a Facebook Live session on Sunday, Korra announced her plans for a Hawaii vacation, sparking outrage. While some fans supported her, others felt deceived.
In her response, Korra clarified in a viral video that she had booked the trip before seeking donations and assured fans that the funds would be used as intended.
She said, “This trip to Hawaii has been booked since. Nigerians, drink water; you will be alright. Jealousy kills. I haven’t collected anything from GoFundMe, and the money will be used for what it says it will be used for.”
The dancer also posted on Instagram, “If a trip I planned a while ago to clear my head is the reason why I should be crucified for asking for help, then nail me on the cross.”
As news of Korra’s Hawaii vacation spread, many fans who had donated began requesting refunds in anger despite her explanation.
KanyiDaily recalls that Korra Obidi’s ex-husband, Justin Dean recently revealed that his four-year-old daughter is twerking for him, stressing that the young girl is influenced by her mother.
