Joel Waksi, an On-Air Personality (OAP) with Atar Communication, which owns Liberty TV/Radio, left the office around 9 p.m. on Friday, June 14, and was expected to return to work at the station’s Mpape office by 2 p.m. the following day.
Balarabe Muhammad, the Group General Manager of Atar Communication, said that the Mpape police found Waksi’s body near the Panteka neighborhood on Wednesday, June 19,
Muhammad, who disclosed this during an interview with Daily Trust, said Joel Waksi’s body was then transferred to the Kubwa General Hospital morgue.
He revealed that Waksi had been stabbed in the neck and his phone was missing. He speculated that phone snatchers might have attacked him.
Muhammad also mentioned that Waksi had survived a similar attack two months earlier, where he was stabbed below the belly.
He said, “It was suspected that he was attacked by the phone snatchers,” adding that two months back, he survived a similar attack, where he was stabbed below his abdomen, but he was treated.
“He was supposed to be on break till Monday, having worked at night; however, due to internal arrangements among colleagues during such public holidays, he was billed to report back to duty the next day afternoon, but he never did.’’
As of the time of the report, SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT police command, had not responded to inquiries about the incident.
KanyiDaily had also reported how Naziru Idris Yau, a journalist working with Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), was struck by a stray bullet inside the government house in Kano state.
