PSG Refuses To Pay Kylian Mbappe £70m In Salary And Bonuses After Real Madrid Transfer

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly withheld €80 million (£70 million) in payments to Kylian Mbappe following his free transfer to Real Madrid.

Mbappe, now officially a Real Madrid player on a five-year deal, was confirmed as their newest star on Monday, June 3, 2024.

According to L’Equipe, PSG’s decision to hold back these payments is a reaction to losing their top player for nothing.

Reports state that PSG didn’t pay Mbappe’s salary for April and May, nor his bonus in February.

This move allowed the club to save the £70 million they had promised him as a loyalty bonus when he extended his contract in 2022.

In November, RMC Sport reported that Mbappe was excluded from PSG’s squad last summer after he announced he wouldn’t be extending his contract.

He was only allowed to return if he agreed to give up his owed bonuses.

PSG had initially demanded that he sign a new deal to rejoin the team, which Mbappe refused.

As a result, he missed PSG’s pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea and had to train with a group of players the club was trying to offload.

He was later brought back to the first team after missing the season opener against Lorient.

L’Equipe confirmed these reports but notes that the dispute was only partially resolved.

Mbappe’s playing time decreased significantly after he informed PSG’s president of his intention to leave at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old is currently with the French national team preparing for Euro 2024 and will join Real Madrid after the tournament.

This comes a few weeks after Kylian Mbappe announced his departure from PSG, where his free transfer left a significant financial and emotional impact on the club.
