Kanu Nwankwo, Joseph Yobo, Falz, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Sabinus, Pocolee, Davido’s ex-lawyer Bobo Ajudua, Odumodublvck, Super Eagles captain Troost Ekong, and others were in Uyo today for a charity match.
The charity match, called “NoOnesXTEF,” is organized by the Troost Ekong Foundation and started yesterday, June 2nd, 2024, around 4 PM.
The match is happening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, and the new national anthem was played before the game.
Although not a requirement, the organizers chose to play the national anthem, and the players lined up before kickoff.
However, it wasn’t the familiar “Arise O’ Compatriots” but the new official anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” approved by the government.
Many players, with their hands on their chests or behind their backs, could only hum or stay silent.
Sabinus‘ unbothered disposition during the recitation of the anthem was one of the funniest moments captured.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have an international match tomorrow against South Africa, and it remains to be seen how well they have learned the new anthem.
KanyiDaily had also reported how Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu refused to stand for the newly adopted national anthem, choosing to sit during its recitation at a recent event.
