Videos shared on social media on Friday, June 28, show his body arriving as family, friends, and colleagues gather to say their final goodbyes.
In one video, undertakers are seen carrying the coffin while music plays in the background. The solemn event left many wondering if Mr. Ibu’s colleagues were present, as only a few of them were seen in the videos.
Another video shows Mr. Ibu’s children on stage singing “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban, wearing white T-shirts with their father’s picture. Some people criticized whoever asked the children to sing, feeling it was inappropriate.
A night of tribute was held for Mr. Ibu on Wednesday in Enugu State, attended by fellow actors Charles Anwurum and Victor Osuagwu, among others.
Earlier this month, the Actors Guild of Nigeria held a candlelight procession in Abuja to honor Mr. Ibu and other deceased actors. Rangers International Football Club and celebrities also organized a football match in his memory.
KanyiDaily recalls that Mr Ibu passed away due to a cardiac arrest on March 2 at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after bravely battling a severe illness for several months.
