Onanuga was reacting to report that the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, had submitted new national minimum wage options and projected cost implications to Buhari.
Taking to his X page on Thursday, he clarified that Wale Edun did not propose a new minimum wage of N105,000 to the president.
“The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false,” Onanuga wrote.
On Tuesday, Tinubu asked Edun to present a new minimum wage plan and cost analysis within 48 hours, following the suspension of a labor strike to allow for further negotiations.
Labor unions had proposed N615,500 and later N494,000 as the new minimum wage, but the government deemed these amounts unrealistic.
At a meeting between labor leaders and government representatives, George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said Tinubu is committed to a national minimum wage higher than N60,000.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had suspended their strike for five days to negotiate the new minimum wage with the government.
