Kwara Governor Reacts As UNILORIN Student Dies, Nine Others Injured In Road Accident

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed sadness over a car accident at the University of Ilorin that resulted in the death of a student and injuries to others.

A lone care accident occurred on Thursday at the UNILORIN, resulting in one death and nine injuries.

The accident involved a ten-seater commercial bus transporting passengers from the campus to the town.

Kunle Akogun, the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, confirmed the accident, revealing that rescue operations began immediately.

The management of the University of Ilorin is saddened to announce the occurrence of a motor accident on campus this afternoon.

“As soon as it occurred, the University Management immediately commenced rescue operations, and all the victims were moved to the University Health Centre.

“They were attended to by a team of medical personnel at the University Health Centre,” the statement said.

Akogun said that the victims were taken to the University Health Centre for treatment.

The University expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Akogun said, “One of them needed advanced treatment and was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital after he was stabilised.

“Four had minor injuries, they were treated and discharged. Five victims, consisting of two males, two females, and the driver, are currently being treated at the University Health Centre.

“Unfortunately, one of the victims was brought in dead, the body has been transferred to the morgue, and the University management is making efforts to contact the next of kin.

“The Management regrets this unfortunate incident, condoles with the family of the deceased, and prays God to comfort the family while we pray for a quick recovery of the injured victims.”

AbdulRazaq, in statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, extended his condolences to the university community and the deceased student’s family.

The governor also wished the injured students a quick recovery and prayed for strength for the family, friends, and classmates of the deceased student.

The statement reads, “Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is sad over the news of a motor accident at the University of Ilorin this afternoon, in which a student has been confirmed dead while a few others were injured.

“The Governor commiserates with the entire university community and the family of the deceased on this very sad development.

“The Governor wishes the injured students quick recoveries, and prays that God gives the family, friends and classmates of the dead student the strength to bear the huge loss.”

KanyiDaily had also reported how UNILORIN student, Olajide Omowumi Blessing was allegedly raped to death in her residence along Tanke area in Ilorin, Kwara State.
