Chi Onwurah, who Hails from Anambra state, was elected into the British House of Commons first in 2010.
She represents the Labour Party and has been serving Newcastle upon Tyne Central and West constituency.
Onwurah defeated six candidates after securing over 18,000 votes with her closest challenger, Ashton Muncaster of the Reform party getting 7815 votes. Conservatives Party candidate Frances Lasok got 4,228 votes
As Co-Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Africa and a member of the Royal African Society, Onwurah expressed gratitude to her constituents and the Labour Party.
She pledged quality representation, writing on her X handle, “I will not let you down.”
Onwurah thanked her supporters, saying, “Thank you from the Labour team to everyone in Newcastle Central and West for putting your confidence in Labour and electing me as your Member of Parliament. We will not let you down!”
