This was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after the Federal Executive Council meeting led by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, July 15.
Idris confirmed that the Nigerian government and UAE authorities have agreed to remove the travel restrictions.
According to him, Nigerian passport holders can now travel to the UAE without any issues.
He added that for more details on the updated visa conditions, Nigerians can visit documentverificationhub.ae.
He said, “I can tell you that the agreement has been reached and effective from today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE are able to do so.
“You are aware that Nigeria has been discussing with the United Arab Emirates the issue of visas for Nigerian passport holders going to the United Arab Emirates.
“Today, an agreement has been reached on that, and effective from today 15th July, Nigerian passport holders are able to obtain visas to go to the United Arab Emirates.
“Details of that will be provided to you later today when we put out a statement.”
The UAE had imposed the visa ban on Nigeria about two years ago due to diplomatic disputes.
Emirates Airline also stopped flights to Nigeria because the Central Bank of Nigeria couldn’t transfer about $85 million in revenue to the UAE.
In June, after several meetings, the Nigerian government assured that the visa ban would soon be lifted. The government also announced that it had paid 98 percent of $85 million owed.
This comes months after President Bola Tinubu and President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reached an agreement N the visa ban placed on Nigerian travelers.
