KanyiDaily recalls that social media users in South Africa had been calling for Chidimma’s disqualification, questioning her status as a legitimate South African citizen.
On August 5, the pageant organizers asked the Department of Home Affairs to verify Chidimma’s citizenship, with consent from both her and her mother.
The investigation suggested that Chidimma’s mother might have committed fraud and identity theft. However, since Chidimma was a minor in 2021, she was not involved.
Chidimma, a 23-year-old law student from Soweto, South Africa, withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant on August 8, citing concerns for her family’s safety.
Following her withdrawal, Mia Le Roux, a model from the Free State, won the Miss South Africa title on August 10 at a glamorous event held at the Sun Bet Arena in Menlyn, Pretoria.
After stepping back from the pageant, Chidimma Adetshina took to her Instagram page to share a video of people who supported her during the controversy.
Sharing the video, the model said that despite facing challenges or difficult times, love was a constant presence in her life, and that’s her story.
She wrote, “In the midst of it all there was still love … This is my story… I was here. Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina”
KanyiDaily recalls that the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant organizers had invited Chidimma Adetshina to join their 2024 competition.
