Checks on Wednesday, August 15, revealed that the EFCC’s handle, with 2.2 million followers, was inaccessible, showing the message, “This account doesn’t exist.”
Speaking with Peoples Gazette, the EFCC’s chief spokesman, Dele Oyewale confirmed the Twitter handle, @officialEFCC, has been down for three days due to a network problem.
Oyewale said the agency’s ICT department is working to resolve it and hopes it will be restored soon.
“Our ICT department is working on it. They have been on it for almost three days now. We are hoping It will come up again,” he said on Wednesday night.
This issue arose days after a group of suspected internet fraudsters threatened cyber attacks against the EFCC.
The yahoo boys accused the anti-graft agency of ignoring constitutional norms in its crackdown on online fraud.
It was gathered that some individuals on Reddit and other forums claimed EFCC detectives extorted them.
It’s unclear if the disappearance is directly related to these threats or if it resulted from a sanction by Twitter or deactivation by those managing the account.
The EFCC’s website and other social media pages on Facebook and Instagram were not affected as of Thursday morning.
The incident has sparked concerns about possible sabotage or sanctions from Twitter, but the exact cause remains unknown.
KanyiDaily recalls that BNaija reality star, Cynthia Nwadiora, popularly known as Cee-C, recently accused an EFCC officer of threatening to shoot and kill her in Lagos.
