#EndBadGovernance Protesters Ignore Pleas, Continue Demonstrations [Videos]

After two days of nationwide protests, demonstrators have once again gathered in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Benin, continuing to push for their demands.

The #EndBadGovernance protests, which started on August 1 in multiple states, aim to highlight the challenges Nigerians face, with inflation hitting 34 percent and basic items becoming too expensive for many households.

Despite pleas from authorities and religious leaders to stop after two days, by 8:00 am on Saturday, August 3, young people holding signs were back on the streets in Lagos,  Port Harcourt and Benin.

In Lagos, protesters started gathering at the Ojota area. While only a few were there early in the day, their numbers have been increasing steadily.

The protesters held signs calling for changes, including reversing the removal of the fuel subsidy.

They also sang songs, expressing frustration over the government’s lack of concern for ordinary Nigerians, especially as the naira’s value has dropped significantly.

Police were present at the rally to ensure everything stayed peaceful. Despite the protests, daily economic activities continued as usual.

Port Harcourt saw a similar situation, with protesters assembling at Pleasure Park in the state capital.

While other parts of the city remained quiet, the protest site was becoming busier as more people joined.

Many waved the Nigerian flag and refused to end the protests, despite calls to return home.

Officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Rivers State Police Command were present in a show of force.

Protests were also happening in Benin City, Edo State, with a lively, almost carnival-like atmosphere.
