Earlier, a video went viral showing a Catholic priest delivering a hard knock to an altar boy’s head because the boy wasn’t holding the microphone correctly while a couple exchanged vows during a wedding ceremony.
The video sparked outrage among Nigerians, leading the priest to issue an apology to the public and the boy.
Surprisingly, the boy’s family defended the priest, telling him there was no issue with hitting their son.
Responding to the situation, Bovi criticized the priest, who had apologized in a meeting with the boy’s family.
The comedian also condemned the priest’s apology as insincere and expressed disappointment with the boy’s family for supporting the priest.
Bovi highlighted his frustration with how abuse is often ignored in Nigeria.
He pointed out that the priest called his actions a “normal correction” and “minor correction,” while the boy’s father claimed he would have faulted the priest if he hadn’t hit his son.
The comedian stressed that the priest hit a defenseless child, embarrassed him, and damaged his confidence over a small mistake.
He questioned what the priest would do if the boy had made a more serious error and wondered what the priest might be capable of behind closed doors if he couldn’t control himself in public.
Bovi argued that hitting a child’s head without cause is a violent and criminal act, questioning why the police hadn’t intervened.
Bovi said, “I’ve been trying to ignore this video like it never happened but after watching the apology video this morning, I’m more livid and miffed at the rate at which most forms of abuse go unchecked in Nigeria.
“In the poorly staged apology video, the priest described his actions as “normal correction” and “a minor correction”. He was even encouraged by another apology of an adult who I couldn’t tell who he was exactly, that he would have blamed the priest if he didn’t do that.
“He hit a defenseless child. He humiliated that child. He harmed that child’s confidence. He hit the head of the child for a very flimsy reason. Now imagine when that child does something really wrong.
“A priest who couldn’t control himself in public. Take a moment to think about what he’s capable of doing behind closed doors. If we think this is normal behavior, then we are all abnormal.
“Knocking a kid in the head unprovoked is a violent and criminal act. @nigerianpolice why haven’t you invited this man? If you fight for one child, you will be saving very many others. We must prevent and put out small fires before we all get consumed.
“In a society where a virgin priest who preaches the teachings of Jesus uses physical harm to convey his unprocessed emotions, there is bound to be doom. We’re probably in hell already.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Bovi Ugboma recently offered advice to American rapper, Diddy after he apologized for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
