#EndBadGovernance: Tinubu’s Govt Arraigns Protesters For Treason Today

The Federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is set to arraign several leaders and organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests.

The protesters are facing accusations of treason, inciting mutiny, and attempting to destabilize Nigeria.

Ten individuals, including Michael Adaramoye (known as Lenin), Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaoluwa Simon, Angel Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nuradeen Khamis, and Abdulsalam Zubairu, will appear before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court.

A British citizen, Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich, has also been named as a defendant in the case.

According to the charge sheet (FHC/ABJ/CR/454/2024) filed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the accused are charged with treason, conspiring to destabilize the country, intimidating the President, and damaging public property, including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) office in Kano.

The police claimed that between July 1 and August 4, 2024, the protesters acted together with the intent to commit these crimes.

The charges include accusations of inciting mutiny and waging war against the state, particularly by attacking police officers and burning several buildings, including police stations and government offices, in various cities like Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe.

The Inspector-General of Police cited violations of Sections 95, 96, 97, 410, and 416 of the Penal Code, stating that the actions of the accused were aimed at inciting public unrest and promoting discontent against the government.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Okonkwo has tackled Nigerians for accepting a high fuel price of N1,000 per liter, despite protesting years ago against a much lower price of N140 per liter at Ojota.
