The house of reps summoned several key figures, including the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan, as well as all officers involved in the prosecution of the crossdresser.
In a letter dated September 27, 2024, the house requested that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyode and Correctional Service Comptroller General Haliru Nababa appear on Monday, September 30, with all officers involved in the allegation.
Others summoned include ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman, who was the Controller of Corrections for Lagos at the time, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Board, Micheal Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections for Medium Security, Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections for Maximum Security, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan.
In April, Bobrisky was arrested by the EFCC on six charges, including money laundering and mutilation of the naira.
During his trial at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro dismissed the money laundering charges but sentenced Bobrisky to six months in prison for naira abuse.
However, not long after his release, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, shared a leaked audio recording on Instagram.
In the recording, Bobrisky described to a friend how EFCC officials allegedly extorted N15 million from him to drop the money laundering charges.
On Tuesday night, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede announced an immediate investigation into the bribery accusations and instructed Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to report to the EFCC’s Lagos office to assist in the inquiry.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior has launched a separate investigation into Bobrisky’s claim that he bribed prison officials to avoid serving time in jail.
KanyiDaily recalls that Bobrisky has denied the bribery allegations, calling the audio “fake” and maintaining that he completed his prison sentence without paying any bribe.
