The election, set for Saturday, September 21, 2024, prompted the president to call on candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and the will of the people.
This message was conveyed in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Tinubu expressed his confidence in voters’ ability to choose their leaders wisely, stressing the importance of civility, tolerance, and respect for democratic rules.
The president also emphasized on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) commitment to holding a free and fair election and urged all parties to cooperate to ensure a smooth and peaceful election.
Tinubu praised the candidates and parties for addressing key issues during their campaigns, such as improving living conditions, boosting economic growth, and contributing to national development.
He called on Edo State residents to stay calm and respectful during the election, and to resolve any disputes peacefully through appropriate channels.
Tinubu reaffirmed his trust in the professionalism of security agencies and INEC officials, urging them to remain neutral and avoid actions that could undermine the election’s integrity.
