Darius Ishaku, who completed his tenure in 2023 after serving for eight years, was reportedly apprehended at his residence in Abuja early on Friday morning, September 27, 2024.
According to Daily Trust, sources within the EFCC said that Ishaku is still detained in their custody as of Friday night.
One source revealed that the former governor faces at least 15 charges, with plans to bring him to court soon, as investigators have gathered enough evidence.
The source added, “Yes, he’s in our custody right now. We have been investigating him covertly since he left as the State governor. There is a lot of financial malfeasance he perpetrated.”
Another insider disclosed that Ishaku was detained after failing to provide satisfactory answers regarding the alleged financial misconduct during his time in office.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest but declined to offer further details when reached for comment.
Ishaku’s arrest follows the EFCC’s recent clash with another former governor, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, who is accused of embezzling N80.2 billion.
