On Friday, Dosu Joseph shared a video on Facebook showing the crash site, where the back of his Ford was lodged under a heavy-duty truck.
The 51-year-old explained that the accident occurred on Wednesday while he was at a gas station getting fuel.
He described how the truck lost control after failing to brake, smashing into his car and leaving it in ruins.
This marks the second time the ex-goalkeeper has narrowly escaped death, having previously been in an accident in 1997 that ended his career at 23 and severely damaged his spinal cord.
Joseph wrote, “To God be the glory, another death escaped by Grace and Mercy of God.
“Me and my friend SM were at Enyo Filling Station after Ojodu Berger bus stop to get fuel on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, around 6 p.m. when this MACK truck fully loaded with iron, with registration number LND 470 XX, left the road and crushed my car beyond repairs. Thank God for life.”
Dosu Joseph was part of the Nigerian team that won a historic gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
He had a similar near-fatal experience during another trip in Lagos in 1997, shortly after his Olympic success, which left him nearly paralyzed at the age of 23 and abruptly ended his football career, which had just begun to take off.
The former goalkeeper currently serves as the head coach of Joseph Dosu Football Club in Lagos.
This comes barely one month after Heartland Football Club announced the death of their head coach, Christian Obi, who died in a car accident.
