During the protest on Wednesday, October 2, the aggrieved PDP members demanded the reversal of the recently announced Edo governorship election results.
Carrying placards and displaying PDP symbols, the demonstrators claimed that their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was the rightful winner of the September 21, 2024 election.
This is contrary to the INEC’s declaration of Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor.
INEC had announced Okpebholo as the winner, having received 291,667 votes, while Ighodalo garnered 247,274 votes.
Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata finished third with 22,763 votes. Fourteen other candidates also ran but secured fewer votes.
Both Ighodalo and Akpata have contested the election results, accusing the APC of engaging in vote buying, a claim the APC has rejected.
Ighodalo has vowed to challenge the outcome in court.
KanyiDaily recalls that Edo governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Hon. Denis Idahosa, were recently presented with their certificates of return by the INEC.
