According to Martinez, many Latino men believe that “a woman belongs in the kitchen” and prefer a male leader, which he says contributed to their strong support for President-elect, Donald Trump.
Speaking to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, Martinez explained, “The man, he’s the one, the provider. And we’re the boss, and we still, unfortunately, have a lot of Latinos with that mentality where the woman belongs in the kitchen.”
However, in the key swing state of Pennsylvania, some Hispanic men emphasized that economic concerns were their main reason for supporting Trump.
North Philadelphia resident Miguel Garcia told CBS News that rising costs for essentials, like food, were a big factor.
“Prices went up, food went up, everything went up,” Miguel Garcia said.
Exit polls from NBC News and CBS News indicated Harris received about 55% of the Hispanic vote in Pennsylvania, while Trump garnered around 45%, marking an increase for Trump compared to his 2020 performance in the state.
Nationally, Trump’s support among Hispanic men rose to 54%, while Harris received 44%.
Martinez suggested that these numbers show a significant portion of Latino men were drawn to Trump.
“It was the Latino men who decided that they were going to vote for Donald Trump. And I will dare to say that it’s the Latino man who wouldn’t want a woman president,” Martinez said.
Trump also secured a notable win in Starr County, Texas, a predominantly Hispanic area that has historically voted Democrat, winning with over 57% of the vote.
Meanwhile, rapper Cardi B has penned an open letter to Kamala Harris after her defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S presidential election.
