Dimeji Ajibola reportedly died today, November 3, 2024, after facing an undisclosed illness, leaving a deep void in Nigeria’s film industry and among fans worldwide.
Samuel Olatunji, a close colleague, confirmed the news in a statement shared with Tribune Online.
Ajibola was widely respected as a visionary talent who pushed creative boundaries, merging traditional and digital art forms in innovative ways.
His expertise extended across film, animation, VFX, virtual worlds, and interactive media.
With a well-rounded education, Ajibola studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.
As CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., he was known for his dedication to excellence.
His 2012 film “Hoodrush”, Nigeria’s first urban musical, highlighted his unique storytelling approach, blending engaging narratives with musical elements.
“Hoodrush” received multiple accolades, winning Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany, as well as Best Actor and Best Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the AMAA Awards.
