Chris Brown Files $500m Lawsuit Against Warner Bros Over Documentary Labelling Him A Rapist

American singer, Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against a film studio, Warner Bros, over a documentary released last year which included accusations of sexual assault.

The singer accused the company of defamation and emotional distress following the release of the documentary “Chris Brown: A History of Violence” on Investigation Discovery.

The lawsuit, filed in California’s Superior Court in Los Angeles on January 21, alleges that the October 2024 docuseries falsely portrayed Chris Brown as a “serial rapist” and “abuser.”

The documentary features multiple women sharing allegations of abuse, including one woman, identified as Jane Doe, who accused Brown of raping her in 2020.

Brown’s legal team has strongly denied these claims saying “This case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” adding that the network aired the documentary “knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating journalistic principles.”

The lawsuit targets Warner Bros., Ample Entertainment, and the producers of the documentary, accusing them of prioritizing profits over journalistic integrity.

Brown’s attorneys argued that the allegations against him have been discredited, citing previous legal outcomes.

For instance, Jane Doe originally filed a lawsuit in January 2022, claiming Brown assaulted her aboard Sean “Diddy” Combs’ yacht.

However, the case was dismissed in August 2022 after text messages reportedly revealed inconsistencies in her story.

The filing also includes allegations against Jane Doe, such as a 2021 restraining order filed by her boyfriend, who claimed she physically assaulted him and harassed him online.

Chris Brown, now 35, has acknowledged his past, including a 2009 conviction for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

His legal team emphasized that Brown has worked to rebuild his reputation over the past decade.

Mr. Brown has grown from those experiences, and his evolution speaks for itself,” the lawsuit claims.

“This new production ignores that growth, choosing instead to repackage stale accusations while amplifying them with demonstrable falsehoods.”

The filing further alleges that the documentary has harmed Brown’s career and damaged his business opportunities.

His lawyer, Levi McCathern, stated, “This case is about protecting the truth. Despite being provided with evidence disproving their claims, the producers of this documentary intentionally promoted false and defamatory information, knowingly disregarding their ethical obligations as journalists.

“Their actions undermine not only Mr. Brown’s decade-long efforts to rebuild his life but also the credibility of true survivors of violence.”

Chris Brown is suing for defamation, emotional distress, and unauthorized use of his name and image, seeking $500 million in damages and a jury trial.

KanyiDaily recalls that Chris Brown recently expressed appreciation for Nigerian artist, Ayra Starr after their collaboration during his 11:11 tour.
