EFCC Invites Billionaire Razaq Okoya’s Sons Over Abuse Of Naira Notes In Viral Video

Subomi and Wahab Okoya, sons of Nigerian billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, have been summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of naira abuse.

KanyiDaily recalls that the brothers were seen in a viral video spraying naira notes, an act that violates Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

The video, which featured a police officer holding bundles of N1,000 notes while the Okoya brothers danced to music, sparked widespread criticism on social media.

Following the backlash, Subomi issued a public apology on his X page where he expressed regret over the incident, claiming he was unaware that such actions were illegal.

Despite the apology, the EFCC has taken action.

A letter signed by Michael Wetkas, acting Director of the Lagos directorate, instructed the two brothers to appear at the commission’s office on Awolowo Road, Lagos, by 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, to face questioning by the special operations team.

KanyiDaily recalls that crossdresser Bobrisky was arrested and sentenced to six months in prison for abusing the naira, without the option of a fine.
