Mahrazu Tsiga was kidnapped along with several other residents of Tsiga village in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State.
A resident of the area confirmed the incident to “Channels Television” via a phone call on Thursday, revealing that the attack occurred on Wednesday night.
He said the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed Tsiga’s residence and took him along with others.
As of now, neither the Katsina State Government nor the police have released a statement regarding the abduction.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attack lasted only a few minutes, during which two residents were injured.
It was gathered that one of the bandits was also killed after being accidentally shot by his own group.
Katsina is among the states in Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central regions frequently targeted by armed groups.
These gangs, operating from forest camps spread across Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states, have been responsible for numerous violent attacks, including mass kidnappings of students.
In response to the escalating insecurity, Governor Dikko Umar Radda launched the Katsina Community Watch Corps (KCWC) in 2023.
The force, made up of about 2,000 vigilantes, was created to support the military and police in tackling the rising threat of banditry.
KanyiDaily had also reported how armed assailants initiated a wave of terror across Katsina State, targeting a mosque, homes, and leaving a trail of death and abductions in their wake.
