“I Have No Child Of My Own To Celebrate My 60th Birthday” – Actress Dupe Jayesimi

Veteran actress Dupe Jayesimi has shared her painful journey of infertility, a failed marriage, and the struggles of living without children.

Speaking on Biola Bayo’s podcast, Talk to B, the actress revealed that she suffered a miscarriage after getting married, which led to serious marital issues and, eventually, divorce.

According to Jayesimi, her ex-husband wasted no time moving on.

Shortly after their split, he brought his pregnant girlfriend into their former home, a situation that left her heartbroken.

She also spoke about undergoing IVF twice in hopes of having a child, but both attempts were unsuccessful, adding to her emotional turmoil.

Despite everything, Dupe Jayesimi said she found solace in raising other children over the years, though she expressed sadness that many of them no longer acknowledge her.

The actress still remains hopeful, believing that as long as she is alive, there is always a possibility for happiness.

Reflecting on her struggles, she recalled the joy of pregnancy before discovering that the baby was growing outside her womb.

When I was pregnant, I was happy. It was later, the doctors observed that the baby was at the back of my womb. It was like I should get swallowed by the ground.

“I questioned God, “I shouldn’t lie after so many years. I was 40 years old when it happened,” she said.

The actress said her mother once urged her to adopt, promising to support the child, but she held on to hope.

She said over the years, she took care of many children, including relatives, but now feels abandoned by them.

Dupe Jayesimi said, “My mum refused and said I should adopt any child, that she would feed the child till death.

“So many children that I have taken good care of don’t even look back to check on me. Is it my younger sister’s kid, or name them?”

The actress also spoke about the financial struggles of aging in the entertainment industry.

For now, I have no other job than theatre, and it isn’t paying like before. May God not let me suffer in old age. It has been seven years since I worked last,” she said.

The actress, who described how her marriage quickly fell apart after her miscarriage, said her pain deepened when she left the marriage.

She said, “I did marry when I was pregnant, but weeks after,, I had a miscarriage. Whenever my husband and I wanted to sleep, he would use a pillow to demarcate the bed. So our body wouldn’t touch.

“Two weeks after I left my husband’s house, he had a new wife come in immediately with pregnancy. I cried. I am not an alcohølic person, but because of that, I did turn into a drunkard.”

Dupe Jayesimi noted that despite trying IVF twice, she was met with disappointment.

“I determined I wasn’t going to marry. I did IVF twice, and it got to a stage where I used to see a drop of blood every evening,” she said.

She said her father had once advised her never to fight over material things—money, property, or men—a lesson she has held onto throughout her life.

Now in her 60s, Jayesimi said she longs for the joy of having her own child celebrate her milestones.Despite her challenges, she remains optimistic.

She said, “My father told me I shouldn’t fight anyone over their things: property, money and men.

“I know how it is to be celebrated by your own kids. I haven’t seen anyone to celebrate me before. I had no child of my own to celebrate my 60th birthday. I believe that no one will ever die and get dropped on the roadside. And they say it’s because she didn’t give birth. If there’s still life there’s always hope”.
