The album, which dropped on March 28, follows his 2023 debut “Ru The World” and further develops his signature Afrodancehall style.
While the music star maintains the energy fans love, this project showcases his artistic growth.
“With Ru The World, I was proving a point, showing people that Ruger is not just a hitmaker but an artist with depth and range. But on this album, I feel more comfortable in my artistry.
“My songwriting has evolved, with more intentional lyrics, delivery, and emotions I’m passing across. I still have that raw energy, but now it’s refined, more calculated,” Ruger ssid.
“BlownBoy Ru” takes listeners on a journey through his experiences with love, self-reflection, and celebration, blending various genres like Afrobeats, R&B, pop, dancehall, and even Fuji.
Speaking on his diverse sound, Ruger explained, “I never want to be boxed into one sound. My music has always been a blend of influences—Afrobeats, Dancehall, R&B, and even Pop. I just let myself be free on this album.”
The album features a mix of exciting collaborations, including the trap-infused “Give Away” with Nigerian rapper Zlatan and the amapiano-inspired “Runaway” featuring Ugandan singer-songwriter Haile.
Afrobeats icon Tiwa Savage teams up with Ruger on the high-energy “Toma Toma”, which has already surpassed 30 million global streams, while “DuDu”, featuring Kranium, delivers smooth, sensual vibes.
To celebrate the album’s release, Ruger is set to embark on a tour across the US and Europe, performing at renowned venues like Philadelphia’s Brooklyn Bowl, Thalia Hall in Chicago, and Brussels’ Ancienne Belgique.
In September, he will return to the UK for headline shows at Manchester’s O2 Ritz, Birmingham’s O2 Institute, and London’s Indigo at The O2.
