The Presidency has barated the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for saying President Muhammadu Buhari has totally failed to tackle insecurity and improve the economy of the country.
KanyiDaily had reported that the NEF Chairman, Ango Abdullahi said that Buhari does not have any idea on what will provide relief or solution to insecurity and poverty in the land.
Describing Buhari as a total failure, Northern Elders lamented that poverty, particularly in the north, and massive social security have worsened under this administration.
Ango Abdullahi stated that before the 2019 elections, NEF had warned Nigerians that Buhari lacked the will, competence and commitment to lead the country into a secure and prosperous future.
However, in a swift reaction through a statement by Buhari’s senior special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the presidency dismissed the Northern Elders Forum as unimportant, saying “you would think the body was a conglomeration of true elders.”
Adesina described the NEF as a one-man show that is like a general without troops which revolves on Ango Abdullahi.
The presidency noted that the Northern Elders had before the 2019 presidential elections expressed its hatred for President Buhari, adding that the candidate NEF supported in the election suffered defeat.
Adesina added that Nigerians know the true state of the nation, and they don’t need a paper tiger to tell them anything. The statement reads:
“Professor Ango Abdullahi on Sunday signed a long-winding statement on many issues relating to the North, and purportedly to the country.
“The former vice-chancellor signed the statement under the banner of Northern Elders Forum (NEF).
“Hearing that title, you would think the body was a conglomeration of true elders. But the truth is that NEF is just Ango Abdullahi, and Ango Abdullahi is NEF. It is a quasi-organisation that boasts of no credible membership, and its leader is akin to a General without troops.
“Before the 2019 presidential election, the one-man army called NEF had shown its antipathy against President Muhammadu Buhari, and its preference for another candidate. They all got beaten together.
“NEF is merely waving a flag that is at half-mast. President Buhari steadily and steadfastly focuses on the task of retooling Nigeria, and discerning Nigerians know the true state of the nation. They don’t need a paper tiger to tell them anything.”
