President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a special salary scale for teachers, and also increased the years of service for teachers from 35 to 40 years.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced this in a speech he read while representing the President at an event on Monday, October 5, 2020.
Over the years, Nigerian teachers have continued to agitate amongst others, an increase in their retirement age, welfare, and salaries.
President Buhari, at the 2020 World Teachers Day celebration in Abuja, explained that the implementation of the new teachers’ salary scheme was to encourage the teachers in delivering better services.
KanyiDaily recalls that last year, President Buhari had said it is now a crime for parents to deny their children basic education in the country.
The president stated this when he inaugurated the National Economic Council (NEC) for the year 2019-2023 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari also stressed the need to take very seriously and enforce very rigorously the statutory provisions on free and compulsory basic education.
