Popular American singer, Beyonce has decried the senseless killing of Nigerian youths who were protesting against the extrajudicial activities of the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
KanyiDaily had reported that there is an ongoing #EndSARS protest across the country against the SARS tactical unit of the Nigerian Police Force over its brutality, illegal arrest, extortion, extra-judicial killings, among others.
On Tuesday night, October 21, 2020, Nigerian Soldiers opened fire on the peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate, killing about nine people and injuring so many others.
Reacting on her Instagram post on Wednesday, Beyonce broke her silence by declaring support for the #EndSARS protests and revealing that she had been working on partnerships with youth organisations to support the protesters.
“I am heartbroken to see the senseless brutality taking place in Nigeria. There has be to be an end to SARS.
“We have been working on partnerships with youth organisations to support those protesting for change. We are collaborating with coalitions to provide emergency healthcare, food, and shelter.
“To our Nigerian sisters and brothers, we stand with you. Please visit beyonce.com for a list of organisations to show your support.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has also condemned the incident, saying the Nigerian Government are a shame to the world for killing their own citizens.
