As the Anambra State Judicial Panel continues investigation of the alleged police brutality, a woman has told the panel that her husband was arrested and murdered by SARS officers.
The woman who is identified as Mrs Amarachi Johnson claims that the defunct Federal Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS), Awkuzu Unit, Anambra State arrested her husband at their residence on 1st August, 2017.
Mrs Johnson, accompanied by her lawyer, explained to Anambra judicial panel that her husband was arrested without any charge by SARS officers.
According to her, one Okoi Ikpi from the Awkuzu Unit led the arrest of her husband. And the officers carted away with her laptop, refrigerator, iPad including some of her baby’s things.
“When they came to our house wearing F-SARS T-shirts, I asked them to show their identity cards, but the told me not to burden them and that I should marry another husband because the man I am living with will not return back alive again.” Mrs Johnson said
“His death was confirmed to me when I approached the Anambra State High Court along with my lawyer few months after his arrest.
“I am using this opportunity to appeal to this honourable panel to investigate and compel the Police authority to pay a reasonable compensation to my family for upkeep and my husband’s proper burial.” She added
The chairman of the judicial panel, Retired Justice Veronica Umeh called on adjournment of the proceedings to November 10 for further hearing.
