The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has revealed that the Federal Government is planning to begin oil production in the North-East.
KanyiDaily recalls that on February 2, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the NNPC to start oil exploration at the Kolmani River-II well, located at Barambu, a border village between Gombe and Bauchi States.
After eight months of crude oil exploration in the area, the NNPC Finally discovered oil in the Kolmani River II Well on the Upper Benue Trough, Gongola Basin, in the North-Eastern part of the country.
The NNPC also announced vast oil discovery in the Benue Trough, a geological structure spanning about 1,000 kilometres northeast from the Bight of Benin to Lake Chad.
Speaking during a recent interview on Channels Television’s Newsnight in Abuja, which aired on Monday, Timipre Sylva said;
“I have said it a few times that we have found oil in the northeast and we have started drilling activities in the Lake Chad Basin”.
“I don’t know how the discovery of oil in the area will impact all the issues there but on our side, we believe that in a very short time, we will start production.”

According to him, in the face of a possible break up, the Southwest will be relatively stable; Southeast will be stable, but the North will be volatile.
