Usman (18-1) defended his title for the third time on Saturday night with a fierce display of power to stop Burns (19-4), his former teammate and sparring partner, at UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The Nigerian nightmare has won all last 13 of his UFC fights and surpassed Georges St-Pierre for the longest winning streak at welterweight.

After Usman got dropped in the first round, he recovered impressively to control the second. He ended the fight with style in the third, putting the 34-year-old Brazilian fighter flat on his back with a perfectly placed right hand just 25 seconds into the round.

The finish came just 34 seconds into Round 3, when Usman dropped Burns with a straight right hand and followed up with several damaging shots to the face and body, leaving the challenger bloodied as the referee called the fight in his favour.

The 33-year-old Nigeria-born Texan fighter jumped up and yelled to the mostly empty gym to “put some respect on my name!”

The win put an end to Burns’ six-fight winning streak while Usman goes 13-0 in the UFC, the longest winning streak in the welterweight division history.
