Bengaluru Police has arrested a Nigerian actor, Chekwume Malvin, after he was caught red-handed peddling drugs in the Indian city.

Malvin, who played the role of a drug trafficker in the south Indian movie ‘Singam 2’, was caught peddling narcotic substance  in a building in HBR Layout in east Bengaluru following a tip-off.

It was gathered that the 45-year-old was apprehended by the police after he was accused of selling drugs to students and some businessmen in the city.

The police seized about 15 grams of MDMA, 250 ml of hashish oil, ₹2,500 (N13, 850) in cash and a mobile phone. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be around ₹8 lakh (N44).

According to the Indian Express, Malvin, has acted in more than 20 Bollywood, Kannada and Tamil movies, among others.

Inquiries revealed that Malvin had come to India on a medical visa but then enrolled in the New York Film Academy in Mumbai to learn acting. 

The police said Malvin had completed a six-month course in acting from the same academy in Abuja in Nigeria, The Hindu reports.

Chekwume Malvin has been booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

KanyiDaily had also reported how a Hollywood actor, Gregory Tyree Boyce and his Nigerian girlfriend, Natalie Adepoju, died of drug overdose.
