The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, over alleged forgery and manipulation of documents.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Fani-Kayode’s arrest by operatives and taken to the Lagos Zonal Office of the anti-graft agency on Tuesday, November 23.
“I think something like that happened,” Uwujaren to PUNCH, but declined to comment further on why the former minister was being interrogated at the EFCC office.
Fani-Kayode is said to have been questioned at the Lagos zonal command of the EFCC over allegations of fraud — including forgery and manipulation of documents.
I Was Invited By EFCC – Fani Kayode
However, in a statement on Tuesday, the former minister said he was invited, not arrested by the commission. He also didn’t give details on why he was asked to present himself at the EFCC office.
He wrote, “Just arrived at the George Hotel for dinner. I was never arrested by the EFCC. I was invited & I flew down to Lagos to see them,” he wrote.
“I arrived in their office at 2.00pm & left at 8.30pm. I was granted bail on self recognition. They were very polite & professional. Thanks be to God.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Fani-Kayode recently dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and started associating with some top government officials whom he had tagged as corrupt fellows.
