In a twitter thread on Friday evening, the page claimed that women of ancient times used the root of an Acacia specie.
Sharing photos of the Acacia specie plant, the page said the root was chewed by women about once a week to prevent pregnancy.
It claimed that the method still works, adding that there are no side effects.
“This is a root of an Acacia specie, it is a contraceptive used by Africans in Ancient times. It was chewed by women about once a week to prevent pregnancy. This method still works and there are no side effects,” it said.
Speaking further on the importance of the acacia trees, the page claimed, “Acacia trees are a forgotten resource. There are about 170 species of acacias native to Africa. They have the ability to utilise nutrients from air, water and can survive the most challenging environments. The pods are rich in protein and are a valuable fodder crop for livestock.“
