A lecturer of the Federal University, Lafia in Nasarawa State, Dr Fred Ekpe Ayokhai, alongside three of his children were arraigned before a court in Lafia for allegedly assaulting a 20-year-old student, Blessing Mathias.

KanyiDaily has reported how the 53-year-old lecturer and his children was seen in a viral video brutalizing the student for allegedly fighting his daughter over a man.
Ayokhai, an associate professor at the Department of History and International Relations, was filmed using scissors to cut off Blessing’s cloth after driving her to an unknown destination.
The lecturer and his children; Emmanuela Ayokhai,18, Bob Praise Ayokhai, 23, and Saint-Dan Ayokhai, 21, were arrested by the police on Saturday.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nansel Rahman, said all the suspects were arraigned before Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State in Lafia, on Wednesday.
Rahman said they were arraigned on six (6) count charge of criminal conspiracy, house breaking and criminal force or assault to woman with intent to outrage modesty, kidnapping and inflicting physical injury on another.
According to him, the offences listed above are punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, Section 3(1) and 4 of the Nasarawa State Kidnapping (Prohibition) Law, 2019, Section 268 (2) and 354 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria and Section 3 (1) of the Nasarawa State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2019.
“The case has been assigned to the High Court, for trial while the suspects have been remanded in prison custody pending formal arraignment,” the statement concluded.
