A Magistrates’ court sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital has remanded the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Gerald Irona, in prison custody.
The court gave the order for Gerald Irona’s remand on Thursday.
The presiding magistrate, C. N Ezerioha, after hearing the prosecution counsel and defence counsel, ordered that Irona be remanded in Owerri correctional centre.
She further said that the court does not have the jurisdiction to hear the matter.
Reports say Gerald Irona was arrested from his Owerri residence on Wednesday by men of the Imo state police command before he was arraigned in court.
According to police, his arrest was due to a statement he made during the Supreme Court battle between governor Hope Uzodimma and former governor Emeka Ihedioha if the latter was removed from office.
This is a developing story. More details will be added shortly.
