Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu on Thursday, said the results of the February 25th presidential election came as a shock to many who had declared a winner before Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared one.
Garba Shehu made the assertion when he was featured in an Arise Television News interview.
According to Garba Shehu, despite the irregularities observed in the conduct of the February 25 election, it remained the most improved in Nigeria’s history.
Reports say Shehu in a statement he signed on Monday, said the current administration had laid the groundwork for credible elections in the country.
The president’s media aide was, however, quick to add that all that is left is for INEC to manage the collation of results.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that INEC declared former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu as the winner of the keenly contested presidential election.
There has, however, been an outcry by his fellow contestants and Nigerians alleging massive rigging and other forms of electoral malpractice at the polls.
In other news, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Secretary of the party in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Amadi Osaronu has been kidnapped by gunmen.
Amadi Osaronu was abducted from his residence in Aluu, Ikwerre LGA on Wednesday.
