The residents of Mushin in Lagos State were full of appreciation as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, as part of the Civil-Military Cooperation activities of the Nigerian Army, commissioned a Renovated/furnished Alafia Oluwa Primary School Mushin and also donated a borehole to ease the water problem in the area.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Chief of Army Staff described the project as one of his special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation projects aimed at winning the hearts and minds of Nigerians by complementing existing infrastructures. He added that the Nigerian Army belongs to Nigerians and as such they must partner in ensuring that Nigeria is safe and secured.
He expressed gratitude to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari for his unflinching support and reaffirmed the unalloyed loyalty of the officers and soldiers of the NA.
The Olu of Mushin, Alayeluwa Oba Fatai Ayinla expressed his appreciation to the NA on behalf of staffs, students of Alafia Oluwa Primary School and people of his community for choosing Mushin for these laudable projects.
Before the renovations, the school was dilapidated with decaying roof and no ceiling which forced students to stay home or leave school early whenever it rained. The institution also lacked basic amenities.
The Nigerian Army renovated the school by providing new roofs, Ceilings, windows and doors, modern toilets, desks, Computers and instructional materials.
Revealing the reason behind the choice of the School and communities, the facilitator of the projects, Maj Gen MA Yekini who is the Dean of the Combat Arms Research at the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, an indigene of Mushin, stated that Alafia Oluwa Primary School was his foundation. He thanked the COAS for approving and sponsoring the project, adding that it will positively impact on the people.
Other dignitaries at the event were the Commandant Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Center, The Executive Chairman of Mushin LGA, GOC 81 Div, Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Army Headquarters amongst others.
In another development, the COAS also commissioned a 12,000 Litre capacity Borehole in Ilasamaja, Mushin, also in Lagos. The projects, which form part of the Chief of Army Staff Civil-Military Cooperation intervention projects, aim at giving back to the Nigerian public for their support to the NA.
Kanyi Daily News earlier reported that The Chief of Army Staff commissioned new building structures to enhance training at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA) in Apapa, Lagos state. Commissioning the projects, the COAS observed that infrastructural development is in consonance with one of the 4 pillars of his philosophy of Command which is “Readiness”, adding, that a key component of training is a conducive environment for learning.
