Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani appears to have reminded the federal government of its promise to start producing aircraft before the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Buhari’s administration comes to an end on May 29, 2023.
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika disclosed this while on an inspection visit to the Magnus Aircraft Industry in Pogany, Hungary.
He noted that the partnership is to assemble airplanes locally, from start to finish.
“If we venture with them, we may start with assembling plants and later manufacturing,” Sirika said.
He emphasised that the local production of aircraft in the country will facilitate the growth of Nigeria as a regional aviation superpower as it will also come with maintenance and repair facilities that will attract patronage from neighbouring countries.
But with less than two months to the end of the current administration, nothing has been heard about the government’s promise on producing the aircraft.
Taking to his official Twitter handle on Thursday, Shehu Sani, who has become a sort of social and public commentator, expressed doubt on the possibility of the government meeting its target of producing an aircraft.
Sani argued that at least the tyres of an aircraft should have been produced by now were the government to meet its target.
He wrote, “If we are to meet up that target of Producing an Aircraft before May 29th, at least the tyres should have been produced by now.”
