A detailed report published by Premium Times (PT) on Sunday, said the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi won the February 25th general election in Rivers State and not his challenger from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
This is according to results uploaded on the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV).
PT said Obi won in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, which means that the haul of votes of the former Anambra governor in the area and not Tinubu, won the presidential election in Rivers, as against to the declaration made by INEC.
According to the paper, the result for Obio/Akpor council area, as declared by INEC, portrayed Tinubu as scoring 80, 239 votes, while Obi polled 3,829 votes.
It said the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar scored 368 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 161 votes.
As a result, the former Lagos State governor was declared the winner of the election. Atiku came second while Obi came third.
PT, which is known for its investigative reportage, said after it however, reviewed results from various polling units of the 17 wards in Obio/Akpor LGA as uploaded on IReV, there showed a sharp contrast with the result declared by Nigeria’s electoral umpire.
The Abuja-based media organisation, however, noted that winning Rivers does not mean Peter Obi would have won the presidential poll.
“He still would have fallen far short of winning the highest number of votes nationally and scoring 25 percent of votes in at least 24 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, as stipulated by the Nigerian constitution,” PT said.
