A former Kogi State Senator, Dino Melaye has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Kogi Governorship Election which will hold on November 11, 2023.
Melaye, who represented Kogi West at the National Assembly, polled a total of 313 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Jabiru Usman who polled 127 votes.
The results of the indirect primary held in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital were announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the PDP primary Election Committee, Ahmed Makarfi.
In the results, a former Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi scored 77 votes and the PDP governorship candidate in 2019, Musa Wada had a total of 56 votes.
By this, Dino Melaye will now contest the November 11, 2023 election alongside a former Auditor General of Local Government in Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, who is the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.
Recall that Kanyi Daily reported that the incumbent Governor, Yahaya Bello had days ago endorsed Ododo, his tribesman as his preferred candidate ahead of his deputy, Chief Edward Onoja.
