Peter Okoye of the music group, Psquare, has revealed how he predicted that his colleague, Wizkid, would be successful in the Nigerian music industry.
Peter, also known as Mr P, spoke during his appearance on the latest episode of The 77 Podcast alongside his twin brother and partner, Paul Okoye.
According to him, he never looked down on Wizkid at the beginning of his career when he was signed to EME Records owned by music star, Banky W.
He recalled how he tackled some reporters for snubbing Wizkid when he came to perform at one of their music concerts as an opening artiste years ago.
Peter Okoye said he told the reporters to interview Wizkid because the ‘Ojulegba crooner’ was going to dominate the music industry in the near future.
“We [P-Square] were never the type of artistes that looked down on anybody. If you remember, there was a video that went viral where it was P-Square concert and Wizkid was opening for us.
“So, they [reporters] kept on interviewing only P-Square and we were like, okay, guys, hold on. What about him? They said… I said no, this guy is going to take over tomorrow,” he said.
Wizkid has grown to become the most streamed African artist on Spotify, with over four billion streams. His song ‘Essence’, which featured Tems, is the longest-charting Nigerian song on the US Billboard Hot 100.
On his part while speaking about their impact, Paul Okoye opined: “Don’t forget who dominated the [music] industry for a long time. We [PSquare] held it down for nearly 13,14 years. We were there. Up there.
“In fact, we started doing traveling around the world, doing the stadiums, doing everything. People fainting, people crying. Signing multimillion dollars deals.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Peter Okoye had recently shared the moment he caught a fraudster using his face on video call to scam people.
