Nigeria’s President-Elect, Bola Tinubu has congratulated chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci for breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time by an individual.
Hilda had on April 2, 2023, announced in a post on her instagram handle, that she was going to make her five-year-long dream a reality, stating that she will cook for four days and four nights to break the 87 hours, 45 minutes, set by Chef Lata Tondon in Rewa, India in 2019.
Originally scheduled to begin on April 28th, the event was moved to May 11th to accommodate the additional attendees who registered for the cook-a-thon at Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos.
On Sunday, May 14, the Nigerian chef replied to a tweet where Guinness World Records wrote “Today is a good day to break a world record”, stating that she was “on it.”
Hilda Baci, who launched into the competition at exactly 4 pm when she put on her cooker on Thursday, May 11, smashed Lata Tondon’s record on Monday morning, May 15.
Tinubu in a tweet on his handle on Monday, hailed the chef for showing the spirit of excellence in the cooking marathon.
He said, “I congratulate Hilda Effiong Bassey on her record-breaking achievement.
“It was a remarkable display of the Nigerian can-do attitude and the spirit of excellence that lies within. We are all deeply proud of her.”

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that Nigeria’s inflation rate has again increased to 22.22 per cent in April as against 22.04 per cent in March.
This was disclosed by the Community Price Index report published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday.
