KanyiDaily recalls that Seun Kuti turned himself to the police on Monday, May 15, after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, ordered his arrest for slapping an officer on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

On Tuesday, Seun Kuti was arraigned before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court to face charges of assaulting a police officer, a violation of Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act.

The police asked the court to remand Kuti for 21 days, but the magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded for 48 hours to allow the police to conclude their investigation.

The court, however, held that the defendant should be admitted to bail in the sum of one million Naira with two sureties in like sum, at the end of the 48-hour remand.

Despite the 48-hour ultimatum, the police secured another order from a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos on Thursday, May 18,  to remand the musician for additional four days.

While seeking an extension of Seun Kuti’s remand until Tuesday, the police told the court that the two days that was earlier granted, was not enough for it to conclude its investigation.
