On May 15, 2023, Hilda Baci achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing the previous Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time held by Chef Lata Tondon from Rewa, India in 2019.

The Akwa Ibom chef, not only broke Tondon’s record of 87 hours and 45 minutes but went on to cook for an astounding 100 hours and 40 minutes, making her the first individual in the world to spend such an extended duration of time cooking.

Although the Guinness World Record is yet to officially confirm Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon, her remarkable achievement has set a benchmark in the culinary world, inspiring other chefs to either break her record or take on the challenge.

On Friday, June 9, 2023, Chef Damilola Adeparusi kicked off a cook-a-thon attempting to break Hilda’s record by cooking for 120 hours in Oye Local Government Area in Ekiti State.

As of the time of writing this report, Chef Dammy has cooked for over 50 hours and counting, but some Nigerians have called her out for envy, saying she should have waited for Guinness World Records to confirm Hilda’s record.

Chef Dammy Offered N1m To Stop Cooking

In a video shared on social media, a businessman said it was unethical for Dammy to set up her own fireplace when Hilda’s record is yet to be confirmed, adding that “If you can turn off the lights, take off everything and end this, I will give you a million Naira.”

He said, “Whoa, what’s all this? It’s really crazy. You know I’m just exercising right now and I’m just so surprised to see Chef Dami going head-on head with Chef Hilda. It’s quite a competitive war right? I’m not saying she shouldn’t go head-on head but the Guinness Book of World Records is not actually approved Hilda yet and I feel like it’s just the regular Nigerian energy of all, all these trying to like compete against themselves which are kind of very protective. I might be see a business model entrepreneur I’m also an entertainer, I’m a star, and I see this even in the entertainment industry a lot of times. I’m like, what’s this happening?

“So, I want to, if you can turn off the lights, take off everything, end this entirely, I’ll give you a million Naira. I’m not doing this for you, though, or whatever, but I just feel the fact that we need to set ourselves out of this whole competitive attitude, unethical competitive attitude.  Let’s Hilda get a record first of all if you want to go ahead and you can go ahead. I’m not saying don’t do it, do it, but at the right time. You’re not doing it at the right time.

“So if you hear me, if anybody has reliable information on getting across to her team and herself. Slide into the DM of my manager, Hypergang Records, and talk to my manager about it. Turn off the lights, show us evidence, video proofs and everything. Shut down everything. Then get to me on there, I’ll to gym in the meantime.”
