The 38-year-old received a special recognition from Guinness World Records prior to Portugal’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday night, June 20.
In a fitting celebration of this milestone, Ronaldo showcased his brilliance on the field by scoring the decisive goal in the 89th minute, leading Portugal to a 1-0 victory in the European Championship qualifying match.
His goal further solidified his legendary status as he now holds the record for the most goals scored by a Portuguese player with an impressive tally of 123.
Ronaldo’s illustrious career also includes triumphs such as winning the European Championship in 2016 and achieving success in the Nations League in 2019.
Ahead of the game against Iceland, Ronaldo expressed his gratitude and pride, saying that reaching 200 international games is a testament to his deep love for his country.
The football star humbly acknowledged that this achievement, a number that no other male player has reached, is beyond what he had ever imagined.
‘Two hundred games played proves the love I have for my country. For me it is an extremely important milestone. It means a lot,” he told ESPN.
“[Two hundred] is a beautiful number that [no men’s player] has. I’m very proud because this is something I never thought I could reach. And I’m continuing to set records.’
Notably, Ronaldo’s list of accolades continues to grow, with his name etched in the annals of football history. In the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar, he became the first male player to score in five different World Cups.
Additionally, he holds the record for the most international hat-tricks, an extraordinary achievement with a remarkable tally of ten.
