Nigerian actor and movie director, Daniel Effiong, has revealed how his father, Colonel Moses Effiong, escaped execution and life jail term over a coup.
Daniel disclosed this in an interview with media personality, Nancy Isime on The Nancy Isime Show shared on Saturday night.
During the interview, the actor asked how he managed their family’s challenges and still achieved his best in his career.
He responded, “I was born into a military family in Jaji, Kaduna and there was a coup to overthrow the then government of Ibrahim Babangida.
“A neighbour very close to us who is part of the mastermind of the coup wanted my dad to go down with him. Few minutes for them to be shot and killed after they were all caught, an officer walked up and called out three officers including my dad from a list to be set apart and committed to life imprisonment.
“My father was in prison for a long, long time. And the one of the things IBB did was to pardon my father just before he left, but he didn’t make it official. So although my father was released in 1993, he lived like a pariar. No one wanted to touch him, no one was sure about him until 2020 when the government of Muhammadu Buhari pardoned him officially. And his rank and entitlement were restored. And that backlog of salaries, pension were now paid to him.
“After three years of being in prison, my mum was traveling to Benin. On her way to visit my dad at the Kano central prison, she had an accident and she died. Of course that broke my father’s heart and I lived through all of that.”
In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that Popular Nollywood actress, Ini Edo says she regretted getting married.
