Football legend, Lionel Messi began his debut for American side, Inter Miami on a positive note, scoring a game-winning free-kick on Saturday morning, Nigerian time.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner came on in the second half and scored a 90th-minute free-kick in his debut game for Inter Miami, securing a 2-1 win against Cruz Azul.
According to reports, Inter Miami hadn’t won in months until this victory.
While expressing happiness with the outcome of the match, Messi said he was lucky the ball went in and dedicated his goal to an injured teammate.
Lionel Messi said, “Let me dedicate this victory to Ian Fray (Inter Miami teammate) who was suffering in the locker room from the injury he sustained. He comes from two serious injuries and today he has the bad luck to go through an injury again.”
Reports further said the match saw the presence of superstars like Lebron James and Serena Williams among others.
