‘It Is Staged’ – Reactions Greet Suicide Attempt By Nigerian Socialite, Farida Sobowale On Third Mainland Bridge
Some Nigerians on social media site, X (formerly known as Twitter) are not buying the story of the suicide attempt by Nigerian socialite, Farida Sobowale on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
Recall that Sobowale was on Thursday, prevented from jumping into the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
A video posted on X which has since gone viral showed how the founder, House of Phreeda, a skincare company packed her Lexus SUV on the bridge, alighted, and was about to jump into the lagoon when some persons rescued her.
In the video, Farida Sobowale could be seen in tears and screaming that she should be allowed to jump into the lagoon.
The video also showed the entrepreneur, who was clad in a black outfit sitting behind the booth of the SUV as commuters consoled her.
The businesswoman was said to have been taken to a police station afterward.
It is not clear the reason for her action, unconfirmed reports claim that Sobowale is having issues in her marriage.
Taking to their various X handles, some Nigerians, however, expressed doubt that her action was real, noting that it was staged.
A couple of the comments argued that if her actions were real, why then did the poster of the suicide attempt video include her social media handle?
Below are some of the reactions:
“If a person desires to commit suicide on the bridge, they can easily do it in the wee hours of the night. I find the act or incident (if real) suspicious. Attempted (but failed) suicide remains a Crime in many countries including Nigeria. However, the jurisprudence or simply put, rational is not to punish the alleged offender but to safely confine them to a place where they can be given proper attention to meet their mental, psychological, emotional, health, and sundry, including financial needs (where it is not abused).”
